What you Should Know About Dentures

Posted .

As you probably know, dentures are usually thought of as a restoration option for the elderly. For this reason, many adults don’t think of dentures as an option for replacing missing teeth. However, dentures can actually be extremely useful for anyone who is missing teeth—regardless of their age, as long as they fit your mouth properly.

With time, you may lose bone from your jaw, which can leave your dentures loose. While loose-fitting dentures may seem like little more than an inconvenience, they can actually lead to a number of stomach problems. You see, if you have un-chewed food in your stomach, that can cause digestive issues.

Normally dentures should not cause you pain. However, if your dentures are loose, you may actually experience a number of headaches and even discomfort while you’re chewing. Furthermore, your teeth, whether they’re natural or not, affect the way you speak, so if your dentures are loose, you may struggle to speak properly.

Ill-fitting dentures may also cause infection in the mouth. This can happen if your dentures are loose, allowing excess food particles to collect and rub oral tissue, causing sores in the mouth. If bacteria get into these sores, you could find yourself with an infection.
